Kissing Frogs and Making Beignets

This week was all about Hard Work and being Creative just like Tiana. The Princess and the Frog is such a good movie! I love how Tiana works hard for what she wants and learns not to forget what’s important, love and family.

She drew a lovely picture of Princess Tiana

The verse for this week and next is Proverbs 31:17; “She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks.”

One of the quotes I put up this week is, “Everything is hard before it’s easy.” And I think that sums things up perfectly.

We got to be creative and have fun with frogs, making frog puppets out of lunch bags and playing Lily pad Hopscotch.

I found a frog toy to use as our marker for Hopscotch.

A few months ago, we started raising tadpoles for a Science lesson, and this week we decided to rename our future frog prince and princess Tiana and Naveen. (Just kidding. The boys wouldn’t let us.) We keep feeding them and cleaning the tank and observing them. They don’t seem to want to grow legs, though, so I have my doubts about them turning into frogs.

Our most anticipates activity this week was cooking. I have to say, I was a little nervous about making beignets for the first time. Our back up plan was chocolate chip cookies.

Turns out, they aren’t that difficult. (download the Tiana worksheet packet for the recipe) If you can make biscuits, you can make beignets, of course, they taste more like donuts.

I drizzled a little honey over them before coating them with powdered sugar. Some of our friends came over to share the French dessert with us. We made the cookies too, because I never pass up the opportunity to have hot and fresh chocolate chip cookies.

Finished Beignets

The boys have been working on Hero Training, but their projects take a little longer. I’ll give you an update next week.
