Art Appreciation – Movements

Studying the Art Movements allows you to both enjoy and learn about different styles of art, but also learn about history. Many times events in history inspires the art of the time.

Art is made for all ages to enjoy and be inspired by. The study guides I’ve made can be appreciated by all ages. The suggested books and activities can be adjusted to different ages and abilities.

The guides below include images of art from the highlighted movement, a small bit of history, websites and books for further research. I have added a few activities for each movement. Art should be enjoyable, so don’t get too caught up in the rules of the movements. Introduce your child to the different movements and let them express it themselves in the activities.

The books I recommend in each study guide are listed below. As an Amazon Associate, I’d appreciated if you use the links to buy the books you want.

If you chose only one book to buy, I recommend 13 Art Movement Children Should Know by, Brad Finger. It’s the book I used to make the study guides. You’ll notice however that there are only 12 study guides. A mystery for you to explore with the book. Your local library will have many of these books too.

Thank you for checking out the Art Movement Study Guides. Find the full list of Art Appreciation Guides here.

Original Artwork for Sale

I’ve always loved art and always wanted to try painting. I’ve done a few here and there, but finally a few weeks ago, I bought some supplies and started painting.

I have found it is an amazing way to relax. The definition of chaos is my house on any given weekday. But when I’m painting, the chaos doesn’t seem so irritating. I can paint for an hour and a half and it feels like ten minutes.

My goal isn’t to become a great artist, but just to make art. My style right now is a mix or acrylic paint, and cut-out collage, mostly silhouettes. I like color, I like whimsical.

However, my new habit cost money, and I’ve run out of space on my walls to display my work. So I’ve decided to try and sell some of it to you. Each piece will come framed and you can pick it up at my house. 8x10s will be $20, 11x14s will be $25.

Below are the examples of the artwork I’ve kept for myself or my family or given away for Christmas gifts. I post them here to give you more of an idea of what I’ve been doing, and also because if you love one of them, I can do my best to re-create it for you.

If you would like to buy one of my pieces, please message me on Facebook Messenger (Kendra Clevenger Bott). If you are out of town, and need me to send it to you, shipping rates will be added.

If you have an idea of something else that you’d like me to paint (example; my sister asked me to paint something for her friend who is a Hufflepuff, and I came up with the first pic in the last gallery) I can do my best to accommodate your request. Keep in mind, I am by no means a professional. 😉

If anything else, I hope you enjoyed looking at the artwork. And maybe it’ll inspire you to create your own artwork. I truly believe if I can do it, anyone can.

Thanks for checking it out.

Veggie Tales Memory Verses

The Veggie Tales Lesson Guides each have a memory verse. Posting the memory verse in our school room not only reminds the kids of the verse all week, but it reminds me too. We try to read the verse a couple of times a day. I honestly don’t care if my kids have it memorized, but I do want them to be very familiar with the Bible. Hiding God’s word in our heart is the goal, not memorization.

Below are a few examples of the Memory Verse Posters that go along with the Veggie Tales Lessons. You can find the entire list of Veggie Tales Lesson Guides and the Memory Verse Posters HERE. All are free to download and use as you see fit.

Another thing I have my older kids do is trace and write the memory verse once or twice a week. I made Trace Pages and Fill in the Blank Pages for each of the Memory Verse Posters for the kids to use as worksheets.

You will find the Trace and Fill in the Blank Pages when you download the Memory Verse packets. Once again, find the entire list of Activity Guides and Memory Verse packets HERE.

The major book we use when we do our VeggieTales Lessons is the Veggie Tales Bible Storybook. It has the VeggieTales Story and the Bible Story as well as a short moral lesson from Bob and Larry. You can purchase a copy through the link below. As an Amazon Associate, I do get a small percentage of each purchase you make through my links. So, if you choose to buy the books I suggest, I really appreciate you using the links.

You can find links to all the VeggieTales DVDs that accompany the Lessons on the VeggieTales Activity Guide Page HERE.

I hope your kids enjoy the VeggieTales Lessons as much as mine do.

Art Appreciation – Artists

When teaching my kids about art, I like to let them look at a lot of pictures and do many hands on activities to get their creative juices flowing. Personally, though my kids don’t love this, I enjoy reading the life stories about artists. I want to know the world they lived in, the inspiration to their art.

The following study guides will give you many pictures of art for your kids to study as well as book lists and websites for research. Each guide also contains a list of activities for your kids to try. Art is fun and should be enjoyed. Choose the activities your child will enjoy.

Stay tuned. More is to come. You can find the entire Art Appreciation Study Guide list here.

As an Amazon Associate, I make a tiny amount of money for each item you by through the provided links. I appreciate you shopping.

And just for fun – the Animaniacs featuring Pablo Picasso and Michelangelo. Did you know Wakko Warner actually invented Cubism? They also helped paint the Sistine Chapel. lol

Fairy Tale Writing

In doing the Twelve Oaks Schoolhouse Fairy Tale Lessons with my kids, I realized my oldest student, who is nine, needed a little bit more. Therefore I created a few Writing Extras.

Accompanying each fairy tale, you can now download and extra packet that will teach your child a few basics of writing. Each packet goes over story elements such as STORY SEQUANCE, PLOT, CHARACTERS, THEME and POINT OF VIEW. With each packet your child will get a chance to either re-write the ending of the fairy tale or create their own “fractured fairy tale.”

Click here for the full list of Feature Stories and Fairy Tales including the Writing Extras packets.

For the Mother Goose Lesson Guide, I did something different. Since Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes are all poetry, I created a poetry Writing Extras packet. It will introduce your child to a few basic styles of poetry and rhyming. I have also listed several to give you a more detailed study.

I am an Amazon Associate, so when you click on a link from my site and purchase an item, I get a tiny bit of money. I appreciated you shopping.
